I’m sure many of you have heard of Ghee, aka clarified butter. Although it has been used in India since the beginning of time it is now gaining popularity in the West. The health benefits are many and I suggest you replace many of the unhealthy oils such as corn and canola with ghee and here’s why: Ghee is made from butter (always best when it’s organic grass-fed butter). The way it’s prepared removes the milk protein and lactose to very low amounts. This makes it more digestible than butter or other oils, especially for people who are sensitive to dairy. It also has a high smoke point so it won’t go rancid like olive oil when you cook with it. In Ayurveda we use it for so many ailments as it is anti-inflammatory, helps digestive problems, enhances immune system function, metabolism, lubricates connective tissue for better flexibility and helps balance hormones. It works at the cellular level. In addition it is delicious. Try herb infused organic ghee as well. You can add it to vegetables, rice and as a spread on bread. I even add a teaspoon to my smoothie. You can easily find pure ghee online. I like Pure Indian Foods which has a wonderful array of ayurvedic products via their website at http://www.pureindianfoods.com/
Wishing you health & happiness,
